I fell in love with climbing over 25 years ago and it has remained a constant passion. But my first love was hill-walking, which I got into as a teenager, and I tried rock climbing as a way to access more adventurous mountains, but of course became instantly hooked. A whole new world opened up and I was soon discovering the beauty of Scotland in winter, the excitement of the Alps and later the vastness of the Himalaya.

For many years my schedule was very simple, alternating work phases and climbing trips with an emphasis on the best combination of all – climbing somewhere remote and high. As well as a couple of attempts on 8000m peaks and new-routing on big walls in Pakistan, I’ve made climbing trips to Norway, Yosemite, The Rockies and Canada’s magical Cirque of the Unclimbables.

At the moment it’s not so easy to escape for long trips to the bigger mountains as I have two young daughters who keep me closer to home. Luckily I’m just as happy throwing my energy into local rock climbing objectives and being based in North Wales there’s plenty to choose from on my doorstep. I’m as keen now as ever and still improving!
